Saginaw Pipe Co. stocks ASTM A53 pipe, seamless and welded, for mechanical, pressure, and general construction work. As an A53 pipe supplier with more than 41 years of steel service center experience, we carry deep inventory across our Saginaw, Alabama, and Palmyra, Pennsylvania locations, ready to ship standard mill lengths or cut to your dimensions with mill test reports on every order.
ASTM A53 covers three manufacturing types and two mechanical grades. Knowing which combination a project needs keeps procurement fast and avoids costly substitutions.
Type F is furnace butt-welded, continuous-weld pipe, limited to smaller diameters and not approved for flanging. Type E is electric-resistance-welded (ERW) pipe, with Grade B seams heat-treated above 1,000degF to remove brittle weld structure. Type S is seamless A53 steel pipe, hot-worked from a solid billet with no weld seam. Saginaw Pipe's A53 inventory runs seamless and ERW.
Grade A carries a minimum yield of 30,000 psi and tensile strength of 48,000 psi. Grade B steps up to 35,000 psi yield and 60,000 psi tensile. Grade B's added strength makes it the standard for most mechanical piping, and the grade Saginaw Pipe carries. Need Grade A? Contact our team to source it.
ASTM A53 pipe holds to chemical limits of 0.25 percent maximum carbon for Grade A or 0.30 percent for Grade B, with manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur capped so mills hit the required mechanical properties. The spec covers nominal sizes from 1/8 inch through 26 inches, across wall schedules 10 through XXH. Every length ships plain-end, beveled, or cut to dimension in-house.
Saginaw Pipe stocks A53 pipe across the ASTM-covered range, from 1/8-inch NPS through 26-inch OD, in standard mill random lengths. Need a shorter or odd length? Our in-house cut-to-length service handles it, so you're not paying to ship material you'll cut down on-site.
A53 pipe is built for mechanical and pressure service:
Saginaw Pipe supplies ASTM A53 seamless pipe and welded A53 for several industries, including:
No. A106 must be seamless, for high-temperature, high-pressure service like power generation piping. A53 can be seamless or welded and is rated for lower- and medium-pressure mechanical service, including steam, water, and gas lines.
It depends on where it sits in the system and the local plumbing code. Black steel A53 is commonly accepted downstream of a backflow preventer, but many plumbers avoid it upstream on the raw water feed due to corrosion risk. Confirm with the project's plumbing code and engineer of record.
A53 can be hot-dip galvanized to meet ASTM's Specification B6 coating requirement; ask our team to confirm current stock. Every A53 order also ships with its mill test report, documenting chemistry, mechanical properties, and heat number.
It happens on plenty of jobs, but A53 is a mechanical and pressure pipe specification, not a structural one. Where a project calls for structural-rated tube, ASTM A500 is the correct spec to reference.
Most stocked sizes ship within 24 to 48 hours from our Alabama and Pennsylvania locations. Give us the diameter, wall thickness, grade, and quantity, and we'll confirm availability and pricing the same day.
